A sick 6yo

Oh man it sucks to have a cold when it's nice out.  Poor little Gooey has a cold.  It was super bad yesterday, we didn't do anything.  She's feeling much better today and we were able to go for our walk!  Here are the roses at the Dodge Turner House today.

The sides are pretty much all in bloom but the top hasn't even started yet.

These are the only 2 pics I got on the walk today.  Joe come with us and he had to get to work so we didn't have time to dilly dally.

I've received a couple more prize I won from the Sew Mamma Sew Giveaway....I don't have any pictures but I will tell you about them.  I won the cutest crayon apron from Karamat. There is a picture of it on her blog  It's in the cutest birdy fabric (I so need some of that).  She has an etsy shop here full of fabric, check it out!

I also won a beautiful pillow cover from Freckled Whimsy.  She has a super cool blog with stunning pictures of her work!  It makes me want to quilt even more!

Here is that other halter top.

Test sewing, refashion, and tea dyeing
This time I used an old bra tank.  I used the hem of the tank so I wouldn't have to sew it, I also added some ruffles and lace (Looking at it I wish I would have made them longer).  After I cut the fabric and sewed on the ruffles I noticed that the fabric was kind dingy so I tea dyed it.  I thought about dyeing it another color but I didn't feel like digging out my dyes.  I love how the lace dyed, the fabric is a little blotchy and up close the shirt just looks dirty...but I still kinda like it...maybe not for Lily...She need color!  The only other chance I made is that I used less elastic in the back.  The pattern calls for 10in and I used 7.5in.  You will be able to find the pattern here very soon!

If I don't blog this weekend I hope everyone has a safe and happy Memorial Day Weekend!

Lily was up a little early this morning.  I'm not sure what's up with that so I'm going to make it short today.

Tea Dyeing
Here is what I dyed with tea yesterday.  It was super quick and easy and I loved how it covers stains.

Tea Dyeing
This is the fabric for Lily's other halter top, I still haven't sewn it together yet.  I love love love how the tea stained the lace!

River Trail Walk 5/26/10

Every day we try to go for a walk and this is one of the things we see along the way.  This is part of the gardens at the Dodge Turner house. Gooey has love to run back and forth under this since she was little.

I think it's time for a nap while I have the chance....

Here is that embroidery that I was telling you about.  I love the folky look of it.  I sewed the lacy ruffles on by hand.  I like the lace grass. :)
I used pink lace hem tape for the hanger.

I won these
Here is one of the prizes I won during the Sew Mamma Sew Giveaway day.  This cute little bib and burp cloth set was made by thinkliz.  You can find her blog here and her etsy shop here.   Check out her shop, she has some super cute stuff and her prices are really good!  I really really really love the fabric she used on the one I won,  I'm not 100% sure where it going to go yet, a couple of friends are preggos or trying.  I'd like to keep it, but I don't think hubby is going to hand over the baby batter anytime soon.

Here is that shawl I'm working on.  I'm on clue 5.  Here is the Ravelry link.  I've been plugging way on this one for awhile now.

This is a necklace I finished yesterday.  I'm going through a red, white, and blue thing.  :)

I don't mean to cut off so quick but I'm going to try my hand at tea dying today.

Test Sewing: Pretty Knit Halter Top

I got the OK to show you my test sewing.  I love to test patterns.  For those of you that have been around for awhile you know that I've done my fair share of test knitting.  This is my first test sewing pattern and I really enjoyed it.

Test Sewing

Test Sewing

This is Pretty Knit Halter Top by Tie Dye Diva and Monkeys Bug.  I used the size 2 pattern (it goes up to 10)  It turned out a little big for Lily, but I really think that had to do more with the fabric choice then the pattern.  I used a ribbed jersey.  Being my 3rdish time sewing with jersey it was a bad choice.  Even with my walking foot the fabric keep getting getting all bunched up under the foot, not fun.  The pattern it's self was very easy to follow with lots of pictures and advice on how to sew jersey.  I really like that info, being that this is something I'm new at.  I've cut another one in the same size but this time I'm refashioning a old tank of mine.  I've already added ruffles and lace to the front.  :)  The plain jersey of the tank is much easier to sew.  I'll be making one of these for my oldest also.  Overall I liked the pattern and if I hadn't the chance to test it I would have bought it.  I really like how they include a large range of sizes in the patterns, it's perfect for both my girls.  I would love to see more patterns for knit!

Pillow Case Dress

Here is a little dressy I finished Lily a few weeks ago.  It finely got warm again so I could get a good picture of it.

009 I used a pillow case, pre-made trim, and vintage bias tape.  For the pattern I used Sweet Slip Dress by Heidi & Finn.  I didn't do the ribbon trim at the bottom, I didn't feel like hemming so I used the eyelet trim.  I love Heidi &Finn's patterns.  This is the 3rd one I've used and I haven't had any problems at all.  I have a few more of their patterns that I still need to try.

I got to test sew a pattern for Tie Dye Diva.  But I don't know if I can't talk about that, when I can I'll post pics :)  I will say it's cute!

I finished a free hand embroidery of a little house and a tree.  My stitches are very uneven but I think it works, it gives it a very folk art look.  I'll get some pictures and post them soon.

We had a fun weekend.  Joe had the weekend off and the In laws came over today.  They got the girls a really cool sprinkler and they had tons of fun...I need to remember to take pictures.

It's been a long day so I'm off to knit for awhile :)

A Tutorial, kinda, How I turned Ugly Toddler T Shirts in to Cute Tank Tops.

I started out with these...
Before My MIL got them for my youngest and I'm not a huge fan of the flash dance look or that built in shirt thing. (I hated that as a kid). I liked the fabric enough to do something with them and I wanted to practice sewing with jersey.

I'm going to show you how I made these shirts in to cute little tanks.

First you need to pick, or make up a pattern. I kinda used The Brooklyn Tank Top from Sewing Clothes Kids Love. I changed the shape of the bottom of the tank so I could use the already hemmed bottom of the t-shirts.

Fold the tops in half and pin your patterns on the fold.
Step 1

Repeat with the other side and then you should have something like this.
Cut Check out my shiny new shears I got for my birthday (thanks woogies)

both cut Then cut the bias tape or whatever trim your using. I used bias tape because I wouldn't have a clue what else to use...this is my first REAL time sewing with jersey (I've played around a little with it before without much luck). I know there is directions for the tank pattern I used but I just lined up the tape on the top and used another tank top for the measurements of the shoulder straps.

Sew the top trim.
top done

Now don't make the mistake I did and go sew the sides together....I found out that ripping the stitches out of jersey is not fun.

Pin your shoulder straps and sew. It should look something like this when you are done.

Now go sew the sides together...

both done, so much cuter
Now you have cute tank tops!

I hope this is clear, it's my first time so go easy on me. If you have any questions let me know. You can click on any of the pictures and they will take to to flickr where they will be much bigger.

Come back tomorrow and enter for a chance to win one of my super awesome locket necklaces that I will be giving way for Sew Mamma Sew's Giveaway day!

So Gooey Wants To Make A Quilt....

Fabric for the quilt that Gooey will be making for her stuffed animals. Out of all this in 3in squares. LOL at least it's only for her stuffed sheepies and llama. She had a ton of fun fishing through my scraps for fabrics she likes (and the animals had a say too). This gave me a chance to clean up my scrap box a bit. I love scraps! Most of these are from other peoples projects.

We (mostly me) will start cutting the squares today, my pinking shears should be here (my b-day gift) and I want to try them out. I don't know how much we'll be sewing this on Suzie, as cute as she is. Gooey gets very frustrated when she jams and I think this would make her give up... I think Suzie need to see a professional, or it just might be the nature of "toy" sewing machines, I don't know. I still think she's super cool!

I've finished clue 4 on the Evenstar shawl (omg finely) it is starting to take forever to finish each row, but it is oh so pretty.

Here are a couple of necklaces I've finished in the last week or so...
Above is Paige, below is Anne

And here are some of the cat nip pillows that I listed on Sunday. They are have a .5oz of nip in them, no fillers, just the good stuff!

Oh fyi I'll be giving away a necklace this Monday for the Sew Mamma Sew give-away day so make sure to come back and visit!

And Her Name Is Suzie

Trinity Sewing on Suzie Yea! We got her up and running after just a bit of drama. I did end up having her threaded and the needle in the right way. We took her apart and oiled her really well, she's loud but runs very smooth. She can still a bit temperamental at times, but we are getting more good stitches then bad. I did misplace a bolt so we had to run out and get another one this morning before Gooey could use it. She seems to really like her and is planning her first quilt.....

top stitches on Suzie Here is the straight stitch top side. (she does a zig zag too, but I haven't tried that yet)

Bottom of Stitches on Suzie Here is the back side of the straight stitch...kinda like a crochet chain.

Thank you for everyone who tried to help!

I wanta sew too I wanta sew too I wanta sew too!!!!!!

This is what Gooey my 6yo has been saying for over a year... sigh.... I'm still not ready to let her play with my machine so when I found this little cutie on ebay I had to get it for her. It was sooo cheap and I had the was so cheap that if it didn't work it was ok. I had made the mistake of giving away my vintage Kenmore to my sil who doesn't use it and I can't really ask for it back, I'd feel like a jerk. Anyway. This one is a vintage Sears/Crystal toy sewing machine.

Vintage Sears Crystal Toy Sewing Machine

Well I works, I think...I'd know for sure if I could thread the thing.... It didn't come with a needle so I'm just using one of mine. That seems to be ok. I've tried threading from back to front and side to side. Side to side almost works..... Does anyone have any clue how to get this thing to work. I've googled and you-tubed with no luck. Gooey doesn't know it's here yet and till I get it to work I'm going to keep it that way....

The threads a little twisted here, but this is it thread side to side. If you click on any of the pictures it will take you to flickr where you can see a full size image.

Thank you :)

Meet Sunshine and Cloud

Cloud and Sunshine Sunshine is our lutino and Cloud is our albino parakeet. We've had Sunshine for about 2 weeks now and Cloud we just got today. Cloud seems like she (we think she's a she) is going to be very active and playful, Sunshine is kinda lazy but is very happy to have a friend, Cloud seems to like him, but is very scared of us. I like being a bird owner, these are our first and I have a feeling they won't be our last. I'm really enjoying them and the kids love them. I wonder if I can talk Joe in to a bird room :)

I've been sewing cat nip pillows for the local pet store, the same one we got the parakeets.. so if your in Lansing you can find them at Pruess. I've got some ready to list in the shop, they should be up this weekend or early next week.

I've finished a few necklaces. These are from my very first collection.....
